The 2009 Advocacy Day & National Call-In Events
were tremendously successful!
On March 31, 2009, nearly 500 advocates participated in the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s 3rd Annual Advocacy Day in Washington, DC and over 1,000 individuals also participated in the National Call-In event.
Many thanks are due to all of you who joined us for this historic event. Through your meetings and calls, our message to make pancreatic cancer research a higher national priority reached 99% of all U.S. Senators and 84% of all U.S. Representatives! Further, by acting together with one voice, we were able to dramatically increase co-sponsorship of the Pancreatic Cancer Research and Education Act, HR 745, introduced by Representatives Anna Eshoo (D-CA) and Ginny Brown-Waite (R-FL), and secure a significant number of House co-signers for the Cummings-Platts letter supporting doubling NCI’s funding. See below for more information about these important victories.
Although we can all take great pride in the advances made through Advocacy Day and the National Call-In, we still have additional work to do to reach our goal of 218 House co-sponsors of H.R. 745. (The bill has not yet been introduced to the Senate). Please see below under “Next Steps” on how you can help. By continuing to work together, we will ensure progress continues in the fight against this devastating disease, America’s fourth leading cause of cancer death.
