The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network works to increase research funding for pancreatic cancer. We aim to fund innovative research, grow the number of researchers directly working on this disease, foster collaboration across disciplines and institutions, and act as a facilitator in the research community to expedite scientific progress that benefits patients.
In 2003, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network began funding Career Development and Fellowship Awards for pancreatic cancer research. These grants provide research funding at a critical time in a researcher's early career, allowing the scientist to develop his or her research data and use this data to apply for larger federal grants. Furthermore, the Career Development and Fellowship Awards encourage scientists to remain working in the field of pancreatic cancer.
In 2007, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network began funding
innovative ideas through Pilot Grants (since renamed Innovative Grants). In 2010, the organization is launching another new and exciting funding mechanism, Pathway to Leadership Grant, which is designed to prepare future scientific leaders in the pancreatic cancer research community.
While we provide direct
support to researchers, we also work to increase the research dollars
for pancreatic cancer from the federal government through our public
policy efforts. These efforts help to leverage
private research dollars into larger federal research funding.
