Sunil Hingorani, a leading pancreatic cancer specialist, at the
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and a researcher at the Fred Hutchinson
Cancer Research Center shared his perspective on Justice Gingsburg's
situation and the latest in pancreatic cancer in general. Dr.
Hingorani spoke about the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic
cancer and the risk factors associated with pancreatic cancer,
including the familial connection.

Dr.
David Mahvi, chief of the division of GI/Oncologic Surgery in
the department of Surgery at Northwestern Memorial, discussed
the current treatments for colon cancer and pancreatic cancer,
including if post-surgery therapies are effective and who should
receive them. Dr.
Mahvi also discussed the relationship of surgical outcomes to
the volume of surgeries performed.

Drs.
Douglas Evans and Robert Wolff of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center
spoke about the the latest advances in the treatment of pancreatic
cancer. Dr. Wolff, Associate Professor of Gastrointestinal
Medical Oncology M. D. Anderson., discussed the benefits of surgery
and when surgery should be performed and detailed the treatments
combined with surgery, such as chemotherapy. Dr. Evans,
Surgical Oncologist and Chief of Endocrine/Pancreatic Surgery
at M. D. Anderson joined the discussion to talk about the importance
of medical oncologists and surgical oncologists working together
as well as the long-term prognosis of advancements in pancreatic
cancer.
